Portrait Artist & Painter Jon J. Krider
Portraits: "Precious Today... Priceless Tomorrow"
On the Easel: are works in process. Jon enjoys showing his current works as they progress through various stages to completion. Being a self-taught artist himself, he hopes that others can learn a thing or two from viewing his style of work, and that they use this knowledge to improve upon their own painting styles.
Be sure to check back often because the images below will change as work progresses on them.

There is still a lot of work that needs to be done on her skin and facial features. At this stage, Jon applies various tones and values to to form the body, thus giving her shape.

As Jon works on the portrait he makes a number of adjustments to other areas of the painting such as, the doorframe, dark background, and her clothes.

We added a close-up of her face below:

The prior stage is displayed to show you the changes that have taken place to the portrait.

Peggy Close-up

You can see the details that Jon is working on in this close-up photo. Although the facial features might look done, they are not. The eyes, nose, and mouth have been placed but work need to be done on them to make them more accurate and realistic. Work will continue on the skin tones to mold them. Work will also begin on her hands and fingers.

We will post additional photos showing the detail work as Jon gets closer to completing this portrait of Peggy.
Artist Comments:
"This painting was to be a surprise for my girlfriend Peggy. However, it's just too hard to keep a secret when I live in a small apartment, and I could not hide a large canvas from her.

I came up with the overall composition after several rough sketches to pull all of my ideas together. I really liked the way this portrait is turning out. I wanted to capture the beauty of Peggy while showing her fun and easy going personality.

I did a couple of different techniques to draw the eye naturally to the primary subject (Peggy). I made the lines of the cement on the wall to point to her; I also pushed the left side of the painting back just a little, and tilted it just a little (look at the dirt floor and left side of the doorway).
